When you sail the Bahamas with Mast Charters, you’ll be checking off some of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in the world. Both the Abacos and Exumas Itineraries hold a week of unforgettable experiences, above and below sea level.

Grab your fins and hop on in, these are the best snorkeling spots in the Bahamas:

ABACOS:

  • Mermaid Reef: This crystal clear spot is located at Marsh Harbour, the first stop on the 7-Day Abacos Itinerary, and rightfully one of the most well-known snorkel spots in the Bahamas. Swim with schools of Yellowtails, Trumpet Fish, Green Moray Eels, and Four-Eyed Butterfly Fish. Keep an eye out for the infamous Rambo, the barracuda that surveys the reef.
  • Guana Cay: Spot Eagle Rays, Parrotfish, and Angelfish at this unforgettable snorkeling destination. Don’t forget to bring your surfboard along for a fun day in the water!
  • Sandy Cay Reef: This spot, sheltered by Man-O-War, is only accessible by boat. You’ll experience the largest concentration of Elkhorn Coral, Eagle Rays, and both Green and Loggerhead Turtles.
  • Green Turtle Cay: This crystal clear spot is well known for its huge sea sponges and shallow Elkhorn and Staghorn reefs five feet below the surface. There’s also the scene of an 1865 shipwreck surrounded by colorful reefs and exotic fish to explore, only accessible by boat.

EXUMAS:

  • Norman’s Cay: Most well known as the former home of Carlos Lehder, a 1970s drug lord, who left aircraft wreckage in the wake of his capture. It has since become home to beautiful fish and even some turtles.
  • Staniel Cay: This must-see spot is most known for the Thunderball Grotto, featured in a handful of films, including two James Bond movies. At this famous destination you’ll swim with Groupers, Angelfish, Parrotfish, Sergeant Majors, and maybe even an Octopus. Be aware, the Grotto is only accessible during low tide!
  • Hawksbill Cay: Home to “The Aquarium,” and earns its name on the list for its colorful waters and a wide variety of exotic fish. Like others in Exumas, this spot has been labeled as a “No Take Zone,” so coral is untouched and pristine.
  • Compass Cay: This spot is best known for its most common resident, the Nurse Shark. Hop in and swim with these friendly hosts for a once in a lifetime experience. No need to be scared, these docile creatures are fed multiple times a day and are very rarely aggressive. You won’t want to miss it – trust us!

These colorful spots are sure to leave an impression on even the most experienced snorkelers. What’re you waiting for? Book your adventure with Mast Charters today, so you can hop on and jump in!
