Mast Must-Do: Best Snorkeling Spots in the British Virgin Islands

In case you missed it, we covered the best snorkeling spots in the Bahamas in our last blog post. But for those that have chosen to join Mast Charters on our British Virgin Islands route, we’ve got you covered too! At a little over 900 miles away from The Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands offer a secluded, tropical paradise to all who visit.

Popular activities range from swimming with dolphins in Tortola, Kayaking in Mangrove Lagoon, or taking a dip in the famous baths in Virgin Gorda. Unsurprisingly however, snorkeling takes the cake as the most popular activity for people of all ages who visit the Islands.

Check out our Mast Approved snorkeling spots:

  • Norman Island: The Norman Island Caves are one of the BVI’s hidden treasures. Schools of fish will follow you into the caves, which shimmer with natural pastel colors thanks to coral and red covering sponge. The caves are dark, so bring a waterproof flashlight to capture the full experience!
  • Leinster Bay: Leinster Bay is just a short sail from Tortola, and is surrounded by Watermelon Cay and Annaberg Sugar Mill. This well-protected area is home to seahorses, trunkfish, flounder, and more! Leinster Bay is perfect for a relaxing day floating in calm waters and exploring the world beneath the tide.
  • Buttonwood Bay: If you’re looking for a more private area to get your snorkel on, Buttonwood Bay may be your spot. It’s secluded location to the west of Great Harbour features a shallow coral reef, and a wide variety of small marine life. Imagine swimming through literally thousands of tiny fish! It’s an unforgettable underwater experience you don’t want to miss.
  • Cistern Point: Cistern Point is a shallow diving and snorkeling spot found near Cooper Island. Sea Life found at Cistern ranges from blue tangs and shrimps to snappers, sergeant majors, and and moray eels! This more private area is great for a quiet marine life adventure, sure to leave you mesmerized.
  • The Baths: The Baths of BVI are a must-see. Enormous granite rocks create incredible and dramatic light. You’ll find beautiful tropical fish swimming through the tunnels of these huge rocks, creating a unique experience for the whole family. Close to sandy beaches and famous trails, the Baths on Virgin Gorda are a great stop offering various activities when you’re done snorkeling!

Whether you’re new to snorkeling or a pro, these spots are must-sees on your BVI adventure. Contact Mast Charters today to book your tropical vacation and experience life under the sea.
