Traveling with Toddlers: Tips for Smooth Sailing with the Family!

Planning a vacation can be hectic, let alone when you’re planning one for the whole family! Taking time off with your loved ones is a beautiful thing; memories and precious moments are created that will never be forgotten. But traveling with the youngest members of your clan can be exhausting and requires an added level of preparation and attention. At Mast Charters, we want to make sure your entire experience goes as smooth as possible, even with toddlers running around (safely, of course!). We’ve put together some of our best tips for making sure you’re ready to set sail with the kids:

  • First and foremost, the most important part of traveling with kids is ensuring that everyone is safe. For the kids that are of age to run around, be sure to set ground rules like no running or playing near the edge of the yacht, and enforce that life jackets are worn at all times when around an open area of the charter! Of course, your safety is our top priority, so let us know ahead of time if we’ll have children or toddlers aboard. We’ll be sure to secure any equipment that could be dangerous or easy to get ahold of. That being said, be aware of where your little ones are at all times while on the charter! Being vigilant with safety will ensure a successful trip all around.
  • Unfortunately, kids are prone to getting sick. If this is their first time out on the water, they might not feel their best. Make sure you’re prepared with emergency medication for your little ones, including children’s cold medicine and seasickness medication!
  • Research! There are plenty of family friendly activities to enjoy in the Bahamas. The Bahamas are arguably a collection of gorgeous natural playgrounds! That being said, not every activity will be suitable for the youngest toddler in your life! Many restaurants and tourist attractions will accommodate your family, but knowing ahead of time will save you the hassle.
  • On that note — keep your youngest ones busy! Make sure to pack their favorite tiny toys for the trip. Keeping them distracted and happy is the key to a successful family vacation with minimal whining (just make sure they don’t go overboard)!
  • But that’s not all! Make sure you bring along plenty of diapers for your teeny toddlers, as well as formula (if needed), and enough non-perishable snacks to keep the picky ones satisfied during your trip. Though the Bahamas are accommodating, it can be hard to find some of these necessities at the last minute.

Traveling with young ones can be stressful at times, but be confident knowing that you can still have an amazing family vacation. Rocking your little one to sleep on the calm waters of the Caribbean will just be the cherry on top.
