Top 5 Reasons You Need to Visit Exumas

Deciding on a tropical vacation, but have no idea where you should be heading? Luckily, this isn’t a bad problem to have, as beautiful islands in the Caribbean are not difficult to come by. There are a few special ones that stand out, however, and that’s why Mast Charters decided to curate three itineraries to our favorite destinations in the world: the Exumas, the Abacos, and the British Virgin Islands.

Today, our spotlight shines on the Exumas, a group of over 350 islands in the Bahamas, rich in history, cultures, and activities. Not convinced? Check out our TOP FIVE reasons you need to make your way to the Exumas.

  • Activities: You’ll never be bored docking in the Exumas, with enough activities and excursions to keep you and your party busy each day! Popular activities include snorkeling, diving and even swimming with pigs. Other sought-after spots include Thunderball Grotto, which is an underwater cave lit by natural light, or exploring through Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park, where you can see some of the oldest evidence of life on Earth! This makes for a great attraction suitable for the whole family.
  • Blue Waters: The waters in the Exumas are the clearest of blue and are never-ending! Relaxing beach days, swimming and snorkeling only get that much better when paired with the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. Photos don’t do these views justice—luckily, you’ll be spending plenty of time sailing these waters with our Mast Charters team.
  • New Friends: Did we mention pigs? Probably the most popular stop in the Exumas is a day trip to swim with the pigs on Big Major Cay. These pigs are not native to the island, however, have become a rich part of the community. Feel free to feed and swim with your new friends—they’re welcoming and love to play! They are living the sweet life after all.
  • Wildlife: Pigs aren’t the only wildlife to call the Exumas home. While exploring grottos and cays, you’ll see an array of birds, lizards and of course, fish. Marine life includes frogfish, sharks, blind cave fish, and more, which make for some pretty exciting dips on your snorkeling and diving adventures.
  • An Experience for All: The Exumas are made up of three sections, all unique and rich in history—Great Exuma, Little Exuma, and the Exuma Cays. We’ll make sure you get to experience all that each has to offer. While many of your laid back beach days and snorkeling adventures may take place on Great and Little Exuma, you’ll experience a lively and luxurious atmosphere when docking on the Cays. A little something for everyone.
